– I really think that
the single largest issue in education today is that after 35 years of school reform,
innovations, restructuring, over the decades we’ve had different names for this stuff. We haven’t moved the needle that much. Why? Why hasn’t all that time and money and reform paid off? I’m convinced that it’s because we have complicated, kind of complexified school improvement. There are so many options
for school leaders, for teachers, mandates,
again, initiatives, that crept into the schoolhouse, found a home there and really had no business being there. How do take that
overabundance of initiatives, reduce it down to something manageable, and isolate not just what’s effective, but what’s most effective so that leaders can lead and teachers can teach without burdening them over much with complication or a more time consuming model of improvement than an ordinary person can handle.
