Successful K-12 Leaders ‘Can’t Do Everything’: Mike Schmoker, Keynote Speaker, LTLF 2017

– Well, common sense tells us that if you have a good leader at the district office
or at the school level, that person, if they set the tone and the direction and they can get people to do the things that matter the most, that they’re gonna have
an exponential impact in every classroom, every school, every school and every
school within a district. That just makes sense. I think the first thing you want in terms of a skill or
a mindset from a leader, whether it’s a district
office or principal or building level, is you want someone who has the discipline to know you can’t do
everything and you can’t do too much at once. We have to have people who are willing and have a hunger for
identifying what works best and then staying on top of it.
