Minister Thompson offers greetings to Indigenous students during Education Week

Minister Thompson>>Hello, I’m Lisa Thompson, Ontario’s Minister of Education. It’s Education Week and this year’s theme is Education That Works for You. Our new plan for education speaks to our commitment to Indigenous education. This means supporting the success and well-being of Indigenous students throughout Ontario. We want all students to develop a knowledge and understanding of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit histories, cultures, contributions and perspectives. This includes a revised First Nation, Métis and Inuit studies curriculum for grades 9 to 12. I’m pleased to say that the new curriculum will be released in the weeks to come, for implementation in September 2019. This also includes the continuation of the Indigenous Grad Coaches Program, providing support to Indigenous students and their families with the goal of seeing each student through to graduation and transition into their desired post-secondary goals and dreams. This important work cannot be achieved alone. We will continue to protect what matters most by working together with Indigenous partners to continue making Education work for all students and parents in Ontario. Thank you. [Ontario logo]
