Hours-Long School Board Meeting Reveals Little On Investigation Into Superintendent Anthony Hamlet.

ROCKS, THIS WAS A LONGER LOOK AT STREET, POLICE WERE SEARCHING FOR EVIDENCE BY A BUSINESS THERE. BOTH VICTIMS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. BREAKING TONIGHT, A REPORT JUST RELEASED DETAILING TRIPS MADE BY THE SUPERINTENDENT OF PITTSBURGH PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THE SCHOOL BOARD SPENT HOURS GOING THROUGH EVERY LINE, AND HE WAS AT THE MEETING WITH DETAILS YOU WILL SEE ONLY ON KDKA. Reporter: AND UNAUTHORIZED TRIP TO CUBA, MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN NO-BID CONTRACTS, PAID CONSULTANT FEES, PITTSBURGH SCHOOL BOARD TONIGHT HEARD THE RESULTS OF AN INVESTIGATION INTO THESE AND OTHER MATTERS. PITTSBURGH SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS ARRIVED FOR A CLOSED-DOOR MEETING TO HEAR THE FINDINGS OF THIS MUCH-ANTICIPATED REPORT ON THE ACTIONS OF THEIR SUPERINTENDENT ANTHONY HAMLIN. THEY HAVE BEEN VERY CLOSE LIPS ABOUT WHAT THE FINDING MIGHT BE, SO NOBODY KNOWS. Reporter: THE BOARD INITIATED THEIR INVESTIGATION IN MAY AFTER WE EXPOSED THE UNAUTHORIZED CUBA TRIP WHICH POTENTIALLY VIOLATED THREE DISTRICT POLICIES, LEAVING THE COUNTRY WITHOUT A BOARD VOTE, TAKING GIFTS FROM VENDORS, AND FAILING TO FILE A REPORT. LATER THAT MONTH, WE REVEALED THAT HAMLET ENTERED INTO DOZENS OF NO-BID CONTRACTS WITH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WITH EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES. SOME USED BY HAMLET AND OTHER ADMINISTRATORS IN FLORIDA, INCLUDING A $4.4 MILLION READING PROGRAM PURCHASED OVER THE OBJECTIONS OF TEACHER AND STAFF COMMITTEES. IN ANOTHER INSTANCE WE FOUND THAT HIGH SCHOOLS WERE DIRECTED TO PURCHASE GRADUATION CAPS AND GOWNS FROM A VENDOR IN FLORIDA WHO HAD THE CONTRACT WITH HAMLIN’S FORMER SCHOOL DISTRICT. MOST RECENTLY, WE REPORTED THAT HAMLIN IS A PAID CONSULTANT TO A COMPANY WHICH ARRANGES PRIVATE MEETINGS BETWEEN SUPERINTENDENTS, AND EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY VENDORS. THE REPORT IS TAKING THE BETTER PART OF FOUR MONTHS, THE BOARD MET FOR FOUR HOURS. WHEN THEY EMERGED, BOARD PRESIDENT HAD LITTLE TO SAY. BECAUSE OF ONGOING — THE OTHER ONGOING INVESTIGATIONS, WE CAN’T REALLY COMMENT AT THIS TIME. Reporter: THE BOARD SAID IT WILL NOT DISCUSS THIS INVESTIGATION UNTIL OTHERS ARE COMPLETED. ONE BY THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND ANOTHER BY THE STATE ETHICS COMMISSION. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP? I THINK THE NEXT STEP FOR THE BOARD IS TO WAIT A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME TO SEE IF ANYTHING COMES OF THESE OTHER MATTERS. IF IT APPEARS THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE ANY RESOLUTIONS, THE BOARD WILL CONSIDER STEPS TO TAKE TO ADDRESS WHATEVER CONCERNS THEY HAVE AS A RESULT OF WHAT THEY HAVE HEARD TONIGHT. Reporter: THE QUESTIONS REMAIN. AGAIN TONIGHT, THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS NO COMMENT, BUT THE PUBLIC REMAINS IN THE DARK ABOUT THE ACTIONS OF ITS SUPERINTENDENT, AND THE USE OF ITS TAX DOLLARS
