Education Week 2015 – launch highlights

[MUSIC] It gives me great pleasure to officially launch Education Week for 2015 a week in which we celebrate public education and public schools in this great state. The theme for this year, Celebrating Local Heroes is a significant theme as local heroes are an important influence on young lives particularly as they develop at school. [MUSIC] These buildings and school grounds is where my career’s ambitions were shaped and where I was shaped as a person. I’m hugely grateful to all those that were involved including some of those staff that are still here today. [MUSIC] I went to a local high school after I’d been to a local primary and infants school. How many people in that school invested into me to make me the person that I am today without me even knowing it. Public education schooling, the investment the educating of our children is something that is so, so important. [MUSIC] We have a lot to be proud of and a lot to celebrate this week. This year’s theme for Education Week is Celebrating Local Heroes. They’re the people in our schools and in our communities that make us extremely proud. [MUSIC] Now I invite you to listen to the local heroes that are here in your school to listen to those people who invite you to do something different with your lives and make your lives fantastic. And whilst you may not realise at the time there’s so many people available to you in this wonderful country that are going to make a difference in your life. I also invite you to become a community hero to make a difference in other people’s lives. [MUSIC] Each of those speakers shared with us their reflections of their pathway through public education in this state and what great stories and personal narratives they have and key messages for us to reflect on and think about what the students of today’s journeys will hold. Thank you so much for joining us and have a wonderful Education Week. Thank you. [APPLAUSE] [MUSIC]
