College Kids React To Top 10 Summer Songs For The Last Ten Years (Billboard 2009-2018)

take you down memory lane and show you some
top summer songs from the past. – (gasps) Oh, god.
I love summer, and I love listening
to music in the summer. – (FBE) We’ll be showing you
10 music videos from 2009 to 2018. – Oh.
– (FBE) And then see if you can correctly guess what year
each video came out. – Oh, these are always so hard!
– I tend to have different associations with, like,
“Oh, sophomore year was this song”
and stuff like that, so this might work.
– (FBE) We have chosen the number one song from each year
according to Billboard. There’s not gonna be
any repeat years. – Okay.
– (FBE) And you get a point for every video you get right.
– Okay. Cool. – I speak for a lot of people
when, like, you hear a song, you think about a time
where you heard it first. So, you just think back
to what you were doing or how old you were then.
– ♪ Okay, now he was… ♪ – Oh, no! I remember this song
was so popular when it came out. – Oh my god. I remember
this on YouTube Rewind. – Oh, this is early!
This is early. I remember I reacted
to this video. (mouths along) ♪ I’m

– Ah, this song was so– everybody was so mad about it. – This song was everywhere. – ♪ I’ma take a… ♪
– (sings along) ♪ Good girl ♪ Oh, shoot. When did this come out?

♪ Talk about getting blasted ♪ ♪ I hate these blurred lines ♪
– I can’t even imagine what year this would be,
but this just brings back emotions. – Ayy, T.I. So, he was
out of jail by then. When did he go to jail?
– ♪ You the hottest bitch in this place ♪
– See, this is hard, ’cause then I’m also trying
to have it associated with what year of the music awards was this.
I’m just gonna go with 2013. – I’m sitting here doing math,
like, Miley is two years older than me, so had she
been 18 at the VMAs, (chuckles) then it
would’ve been 2010. This is how my brain works.
It’s really hard to deal with. I’ll put it at 2011 for now.
– That’s summer ’13. It was the summer going
into senior year of high school, so I remember doing the whole
senior year pictures and stuff. – ♪ (slow guitar intro) ♪
– Ooh, “Despacito.” Okay, this is when
I was in high school. – “Despacito.”
Was that last year? Was that two years ago?

but I still don’t know the Spanish parts.

Where was I when this song was a hit?
– This song is not that old. So, I’m putting it at 2017. – When were the “Despacito”
memes popular? It’s so funny that I’m relating
the song to memes and see what year it was popular.
I think I’m gonna go with 2017. – ♪ You should want
a bad bitch like this ♪ ♪ Drop it low and pick it up ♪
– (raps along) ♪ Just like this ♪ – Iggy.
– Ooh. Okay. This had to have been freshman
or sophomore year of high school. – ♪ I’m so fancy ♪
– This started her on her whole career.
– “Fancy” was not a song I was necessarily into,
but it was a song that was always being played.
– I only know Charlie XCX from that “Boom Clap” video. – (rap along) ♪ Make
the phone call ♪ ♪ Feels so good
getting what I want ♪ – (raps along) ♪ Keep
on turning it up ♪ I’m also looking at their clothing,
’cause I would’ve wanted to dress like everyone in this music video.
Sophomore year me, high school, would’ve wanted to wear
all of their clothes. – This has to be ’13,
’cause I was still in high school. – I’m gonna say 2016.
I cannot believe it’s been so long.
Oh my god! Music is timeless. – ♪ Gotta be real with it ♪
– Ohhh! “In My Feelings.” Drake has been running
the charts for the past two years. – ♪ Are you riding? ♪
– This was big last year. – ♪ Kiki ♪

♪ ‘Cause I want ya ♪ – The stupid dance in this,
I remember everyone was doing that. – ♪ KB, do you love me? ♪

♪ ‘Cause I want ya ♪ Great song.
– How long has this song– This is 2017, ’cause everybody
did the thing and the car and their dancing
with the car. I never did that,
’cause it’s dangerous. – I feel like this is
the freshest, like, the latest. This came out 2018,
’cause also, everyone was doing the “In My Feelings” challenge.
– This is 2018, ’cause I remember listening to it in the summer.
I was in Hawaii when this album came out. Oh!
It was a good Hawaii trip. – ♪ I didn’t know I would… ♪
– Oh my god! This song! – Oh my god.
This song just brings back… parodies.
– (sings along) ♪ Where you think you’re going, baby? ♪
♪ Hey, I just met you ♪ ♪ And this is crazy ♪
Out of the entire list, this is the best summer jam.

♪ So call me maybe ♪ – ♪ It’s hard to look right ♪ ♪ At you, baby ♪
– I think everybody back in the day
was singing this song. – (sings along) ♪ But here’s
my number, so call me maybe ♪ This is the cutest frickin’ song!
This came out when I was in the eighth grade,
because I know that for our eighth grade dance,
I asked my friend Andrina as my date, and so I made her
a sign that said, “Will you be my date to the eighth grade dance?
If so, call me maybe.” – I’m gonna say that’s 2012.
– That has to be 2009. That song takes me back
to such innocent, sweet times. – ♪ You could travel the world ♪
– This was my song. – Oh, dude! Katy Perry!
– This was me and my best friend in high school’s song.
– ♪ Once you party with us ♪ – Now that I think about it,
Snoop Dogg and Katy Perry is the strangest collaboration.
– (sings along) ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh ♪ ♪ California girls,
we’re unforgettable ♪ – ♪ Daisy Dukes… ♪
– Whoa, Katy! Put some clothes on. – (sings along) ♪ Sun-kissed skin ♪
♪ So hot, will melt your popsicle ♪ – I never got that
this song was dirty ♪ – ♪ Oh, oh, oh ♪
– Great song. It’s iconic. 50 years from now
our kids will look back and go, “California Gurls” by Katy Perry. – That’s 2010. It was the ultimate
summer song. We would listen to it when we were tanning
out by the pool. – I’m gonna say 2010.
California Gurls was the summer anthem
for a couple of years. People now still play that song
during the summer all the time. It’s a west coast classic.
– ♪ She grants my wishes like a genie ♪
– Oh, “Cheerleader.” – Whoa. (chuckles)
I forgot this song completely. – Oh, man. It’s a great song.
It’s so catchy. – I feel like this song is so old.
– This song for sure was on when Vine was around,
’cause I remember it was a trend. – ♪ Do I make you
feel like cheating? ♪ ♪ I’m like, no… ♪
– (sings along) ♪ Not really, ’cause ♪ ♪ Oh, I think that I found
myself a cheerleader ♪ – ♪ She is always… ♪
– So good. – ♪ …when I need her ♪
– The trumpet? That’s a summer song. – This was the very first song
I played on my car radio, ’cause for the first couple months
I had a car, it had no radio, and I would put my phone
in the coin dish and then roll up the windows
and be real quiet. That summer, every time
I got in the car, I had to play “Cheerleader” first.
– “Cheerleader” was definitely 2015, ’cause I had a youth conference
and while preparing for the youth conference–
this was in Vegas 2015– we would listen
to the song on repeat. – Summer of 2015.
The “Don’t Judge Me” challenge was also used for this song,
and that was a pretty recent challenge, so I think I’m good
with where I put it. – ♪ Party rock is in the house… ♪
– This song, though! This is when I first discovered
what shuffling was. – ♪ Everybody, just have a good time ♪
– Damn! The shuffle!
– Bro, what?! This was my middle school anthem.
– (sings along) ♪ Shake that ♪ – ♪ Shake that ♪

– These were happy times! When that song came out,
I was having the best time of my life. I had no bills to pay.
All I had to worry was school. I’m gonna put it on number 10,
but I’m gonna change it later. – 2011 is where I’m gonna put
“Party Rock Anthem.” Hopefully that’s not wrong.
I feel like that it is, but you know what?
My gut tells me it’s right. – ♪ Ooh ♪

– This is the 2009 song. I know it.

my sixth grade back to school dance. Oh my gosh. This makes me
feel warm inside. – Even in quality,
that just looks so much older. I’m gonna put that on 2011.
– That’s 2009 for sho. That’s is what I think of
when I think of middle school, that song’s playing. – ♪ Baby ♪
– Another Drake one? – (sings along) ♪ I like your style ♪
Okay, this is one of the newer ones. – This is senior of prom.
This is 2016 for sure. – Oh, no! Ah!
I’m second guessing everything! – Oh, I’m so confident now.
“One Dance” was 2016. I remember that more
than anything else in the world. – Oh, this is still my jam. (sings along)

the text, reply me ♪ – This was everyone’s summer anthem
whenever it came out. I don’t know what year.
– ♪ And that’s why ♪ – (sings along) ♪ I need a one dance ♪

– I love this song. I’m actually a huge fan of Drake.
A lot of people hate on him, but his music’s just so good.
2016. That sounds about right to me. – My last choice is 2017.
– I think “Once Dance” is 2016. And that’s it for our list.
I feel like I gotta swap a few around. – (FBE) Okay, so now I’m gonna
give you about 30 seconds to change what you think you really
need to change. – Yeah. I think
“California Gurls” was 2011. – The two Drake songs,
I’m switching them. So, “In My Feelings”
is now 2018. – I feel like
“Party Rock Anthem” might be older
than “California Gurls,” but I don’t know.
I’m gonna keep what I got. – “Gotta Feeling,” 2009.
“Party Rock,” 2010. – Stick with my gut
even though my gut’s telling me to change them.
I’m sticking with my first gut. – (FBE) Now that you’ve

So, I got three wrong. For my first one,
I’m pretty proud of myself. – My childhood development years,
totally a blur. I was not paying attention to
what years songs came out and stuff. As you get more recent,
I got my footing. – (FBE) So finally, after seeing
the top songs from the past years, which song do you think
is gonna be the song of the summer for 2019?
– Ohh. God. Maybe some Ariana Grande.
She just had such a really good year with her tour rocking
and her albums that I feel like she deserves
number one summer song. – Oh my god!
“Truth Hurts” by Lizzo. She is so dang catchy.
– “Old Town Road.” You just hear that everywhere.
At country places. You hear at hip-hop.
You hear it in the club. It’s just dominating.
– None of the songs that have been released.
They don’t have that summer bop to them, you know
what I’m saying? So, I think we’re
