Champion kayaker Lisa Carrington visits school to spread Christmas cheer

It’s not every day
an Olympic champion drops by your school, but for students
at a Bay of Plenty school, that’s exactly what happened. Kayaker Lisa Carrington popped
in to Waiotahe Valley School – her former school
– to spread some Christmas cheer. Returning to her roots
to spread fun and joy. Carrington is a former pupil
of Waiotahe Valley School. She wants the students to know that this pathway is possible
for them as well. But it’s not as if her ties
to the school have been cut, her father is still the principal. Her mum is still a teacher as well. She thinks back to when
her daughter was younger. It’s been a great year
for the Ngati Porou and Te Aitanga a Mahaki descendant, she remains at the top of her sport, kayaking. She is preparing herself
for the Olympics next year. However, for now, she is resting herself
ahead of pre-season training. Rapaera Tawhai, Te Karere.
